The Balabac Strait is a strait of the sea and connects the South China Sea in the west with the Sulu Sea in the east. In the north is the Philippine island of Balabac - which belongs to the province of Palawan - and in the south the Malaysian island of Banggi - which is located north of Borneo and belongs to the state of Sabah .

At its narrowest point, it is 49 km wide.

To the east of the road lies the Mangsee Reef (Great Reef) and the two islands of North Mangsee and South Mangsee.

In May 1942 the American submarine SS-183 Seal sank the Japanese transport ship Tatsufuku Maru (1946 t) in the Balabac Strait .
