Balabac

Balabac is a Philippine island and municipality in the province of Palawan . It has 40,142 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census). There is a Palawan State University campus in the community . The Pandanan shipwreck was discovered near the island of the same name in 1993 .

The island measures approximately 30 km from north to south and 12 km from east to west.

In addition to the main island, the municipality also includes other islands in the northeast: Bancalan, Bugsuk, Pandanan and Mantangule, and in the north, only separated by a narrow inlet, Ramos, a circular island almost 6 km in diameter.

10 km to the east is the small island of Lumbucan, which is triangular in shape with the longest side less than 2 km long. The Lumbucan Canal extends alongside Lumbucan.

Malaysia begins in the south, across the Balabac Strait .

The rare Palawan bearded pig lives on Balabac. Likewise the Balabac-Kantschil .

Administrative division

In 1957 Balabac was raised from a parish district to a parish .
