Balboa is an impact crater on the northwestern edge of the moon's front . It lies on the western edge of the Oceanus Procellarum , north of the neighboring Dalton crater and southwest of the Struve whale plain . The crater rim is heavily eroded. The inside has break lines.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1964 after the Spanish explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa .
