As Balder's dreams or Baldrs draumar (also Wegtamlied called) is called a song from the Poetic Edda , which only a few decades after the main manuscript Codex Regius was partially and some similarities to the Thrymlied and the prophecy of the seer has. It consists of a total of 14 stanzas, of which the first four are introductory and the remaining ten are dialogue stanzas.

During the Romantic era , in the 18th and 19th centuries, the song was widely received due to its dark romantic mood.

Due to Balder's terrible nightmares , in which he dreams of his own death, Odin disguised himself as Wegtam goes to the Niflhel , the lowest of all worlds, which lies behind the Hel and there, with the help of his magical powers, brings a dead seer back to life in order to from her to experience the meaning of Balder's dreams. Under magical compulsion, the seer Odin tells of the death of his son Balder, names his murderer Höd (but not his instigator Loki ), as well as Balder's avenger Wali , who is another son of Odin, and at the end of the song realizes who Wegtam really is.
