Realization and functional principle of the balisor
Balisor in practice

Balisor is a marker light for high voltage lines , which is also used in flight safety lighting and which was patented in 1989. This special form of air traffic control is used in France, for example, in the regions around Mâcon in Burgundy .

It consists of a tubular gas discharge lamp , one pole of which is attached to the AC high-voltage conductor cable and galvanically connected to it. The other pole of the lamp is connected to a wire which is insulated from the conductor and in which the decreasing electrical potential creates a comparatively low electrical voltage which feeds the lamp. The advantage of the balisor is that no separate power supply is required for the lamp. The disadvantage is that the lamp only lights up when the high voltage is switched on and the line has to be operated with alternating voltage .

The Balisor system is not used in Germany.
