Balkan Cup 1935

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 6th Balkan Cup was a competition for national football teams from countries in the Balkan region . The games took place in June 1935 for the second time in competition history after 1931 in Bulgaria's capital Sofia . In addition to the hosts, Greece , Yugoslavia and Romania also took part in the tournament , as in the previous year . Each team played once against each other in group mode. In the end, the defending champions Yugoslavia and the Bulgarians were tied at the top. Due to the better average of goals (goals scored divided by goals conceded) of 2.75 versus 2.4, Yugoslavia won and, with its second Balkan Cup victory, drew level with the previous single record winners Romania and Bulgaria. In the decision for third place, the goal average had to decide, which gave the Greeks precedence over the Romanians, who took last place for the first time in tournament history. The top scorer was Angulov from Bulgaria (five hits).
