Balkanology
The Balkanologie (also South East European Studies ) is a part of science of European ethnology (folklore) and linguistics , "whose goal is ethnien- the cultures on the Balkan Peninsula in their linguistic and non-linguistic manifestations, saying family across, comparative and interdisciplinary-integrative to investigate." It is one of the regional sciences .
When comparing the languages in the Balkans, structural similarities of the languages belonging to genealogically different families ( Slavic , Romansh , Greek , Albanian , Romani ) become apparent. For example, the infinitive in Bulgarian, Romanian and Greek is represented by a kind of subordinate clause construction, i.e. 'I-want that I-go' for 'I want to go'. Research into such mutual language influences (substrate, superstrate or astrate effect) using the example of the Balkan languages is also of great importance for general linguistics.
The Friedrich Schiller University in Jena has been teaching Southeast European Studies since 1997, with a chair in South Slavic Studies and Balkan Studies. Currently (as of July 2019) the interdisciplinary Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Southeast European Studies are offered, which are coordinated by the Chair for Eastern European History, the Chair for Romanian Studies and the Chair for South Slavonic Studies. It is possible to take the languages Bosnian / Croatian / Serbian / Montenegrin, Bulgarian, Romanian, Albanian, Greek, Turkish and Hungarian. Cooperations with other seminars and institutes take place again and again, for example the project "We live word to word - Banat, Transylvania, Bukowina: An ethnograffiti of Southeast Europe", a cooperation between Romanian Studies and the Seminar for Folklore / Cultural History. This subject was introduced in a similar form in 2003 at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg as part of a European Bachelor's program.
