Justinus van der Brugghen

Justinus Jacob Leonard van der Brugghen (born August 6, 1804 in Nijmegen , † October 2, 1863 in Ubbergen ) was an anti-revolutionary Dutch statesman. From 1856 to 1858 he was chairman of the Council of Ministers.

After taking private lessons from his mother, van der Brugghen attended Latin school in Nijmegen and studied law in Leiden , where he received his doctorate in 1826. He then worked as a lawyer in Nijmegen. He later became director of a bank and a member of the Second Chamber of the States General , before becoming Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Council of Ministers from 1856 to 1858. When composing his cabinet, he took into account the wishes of King Wilhelm III .
