Floris Adriaan van Hall
Floris Adriaan Baron van Hall (born May 15, 1791 in Amsterdam , † March 29, 1866 in The Hague ) was a liberal , later conservative Dutch statesman. He was chairman of the Council of Ministers from 1853 to 1856 and from 1860 to 1861.
His father Maurits Cornelis van Hall was a member of the First Chamber of the States General and also distinguished himself as a literary scholar and poet. After attending Latin school and high school education at the Atheneum Illustre in Amsterdam , van Hall studied law in Leiden and received his doctorate in Amsterdam in 1812. In 1813 he had to serve in the Legion of Honor of Emperor Napoleon , but escaped via Switzerland and returned to Amsterdam.
Van Hall worked as a lawyer in his father's office until he joined the government in 1842, first as minister of justice, then as minister of finance (until 1848). 1853-1856 he was chairman of the Council of Ministers and foreign minister at the same time. Temporarily he also held the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Affairs of the Roman Catholic Church (but he himself belonged to the Reformed Church ). After a time as a member of the Second Chamber, he was once again head of government and finance and foreign minister from 1860–1861.
By marrying his second wife Henriette Marie Jeanne, he had been a son-in-law of the former head of government Gerrit Schimmelpenninck since 1853 . In 1856 he was awarded the title of baron . After leaving politics in 1861, he devoted himself to historical studies.
