Jan Karel van Goltstein

Jan Karel Baron van Goltstein (born May 30, 1794 in Arnhem , † February 17, 1872 in The Hague ) was a Dutch lawyer and non-party politician. From March 5, 1858 to February 23, 1860 he was Foreign Minister in the Rochussen cabinet .

Van Goltstein came from a wealthy Jülich noble family . In 1794 the family fled to East Friesland , later returned and settled in Utrecht, where van Goltstein grew up. His father Evert Jan Benjamin van Goltstein was mayor of Wageningen , his mother's name was Frederica van der Capellen . He had seven brothers and sisters. One of his brothers was Hendrik Rudolph Willem van Goltstein van Oldenaller , and he was the uncle of Willem van Goltstein van Oldenaller , both of whom were also politicians.

Van Goltstein studied law at the University of Utrecht . In 1811 he settled there as a lawyer.

On September 28, 1828 he married the baroness Adolphine Wernerdine van Pallandt . The marriage remained childless.

From 1849 to 1850 and from 1856 to 1858 he was chairman of the Second Chamber , a member of which he remained until his death. From 1858 to 1860 he was Foreign Minister.

His predecessor as Foreign Minister was Daniël Théodore Gevers van Endegeest ; his successor Floris Adriaan van Hall .
