Jacob van Zuylen van Nijevelt
Jacob Pieter Pompejus Baron van Zuylen van Nijevelt (born June 29, 1816 in Dordrecht , † November 4, 1890 in The Hague ) was a liberal , later conservative Dutch statesman. In 1861 he was chairman of the Council of Ministers. His cousin Julius van Zuylen van Nijevelt was also chairman of the Council of Ministers from 1866 to 1868.
After a high school education at the Atheneum Illustre in Deventer , Zuylen van Nijevelt studied law at the University of Utrecht , where he received his doctorate in 1840.
From 1849 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the States General . The aristocratic landowner was initially a supporter of Johan Rudolf Thorbecke and was foreign minister in his cabinet from 1852-1853. After his third marriage to the daughter of the former chairman of the Council of Ministers Jan Jacob Rochussen , he became more conservative under the influence of his new father-in-law. In 1861 he became chairman of the Council of Ministers and foreign minister again. He later became envoy in Paris and a member of the First Chamber of the States General .
