Charles Ruijs de Beerenbrouck
Charles Ruijs de Beerenbrouck (born December 1, 1873 in Roermond , † April 17, 1936 in Utrecht ) was Dutch Interior Minister and Prime Minister from 1918 to 1925 and from 1929 to 1933.
Beerenbrouck's father was Justice Minister in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Mackay and Governor of Limburg .
Beerenbrouck studied law at the University of Leiden and received his doctorate in 1895. He was a member of the Augustinus student association and active in several Catholic associations. He was also involved in the fight against alcoholism.
When he took up the post of Prime Minister in 1918, he was the youngest and first Catholic Prime Minister of the Netherlands.
In 1927 he was awarded the honorary title of Minister of State .
