Johan Gijsbert Verstolk van Soelen
Johan Gijsbert Baron Verstolk van Soelen (also Johan Gijsbert Baron Verstolck van Soelen , Jan Gijsbert Baron Verstolck van Soelen ; born March 16, 1776 in Rotterdam , † November 3, 1845 in Zoelen ) was a Dutch politician.
Act
Verstolk studied law and political science in Göttingen and Kiel , then traveled to Northern Europe, lived for a long time in England and returned to Holland in 1801 . He was first a judge in his hometown, became Landdrost von Geldern in 1809 and, in 1811, after the union of Holland with France, Prefect of Friesland . When the allies marched in in 1813, he left his post, but was entrusted with the administration of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in 1815 , but was sent to Saint Petersburg as the Dutch envoy at the end of the year . From there he returned in 1822, became Minister for Foreign Affairs in 1825 and represented Holland's claims against Belgium at the London Conference in 1833 . In 1840 he gave up his portfolio, from then on lived in the arts and sciences and died in 1845. The title of Minister of State was awarded to him on September 13, 1841.
He wrote several state papers in the Recueil de pièces diplomatiques relatives aux affaires de la Hollande et de la Belgique de 1830 jusqu'en 1833 , The Hague 1833, 3 volumes. A catalog was published about his important collection of paintings, drawings and copperplate engravings (auctioned off after his death), Amsterdam 1847–51.
