The Ballard Spur is a rock spur in the Ross Dependency of Antarctica . It rises 8 km north of Cape Wilson on the east side of the Nash Range .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it using tellurometer surveys and aerial photographs by the United States Navy from 1960 to 1962. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it after Thomas B. Ballard, aurora researcher for the United States Antarctic Research Program at Hallett Station in 1961.
