Ballhaus (Lemgo)
The Ballhaus in Lemgo , a town in the district of Lippe in Detmold ( North Rhine-Westphalia ), was built in 1608/09. The building at the southern end of the market square is a protected architectural monument .
description
The building was built by Hermann Roleff as a municipal ballroom with an inn. Parts of the previous buildings were reused. A coat of arms stone dated 1549 can also be seen, which depicts a wolf with a sheep in its mouth. It is the house brand of the doctor Johann Schapedoit.
In 1974/75 the house was gutted and the renovation to its present state was based on building findings, so that the four-lane post windows from the 16th century were restored. A flight of stairs on the market square leads to the main entrance. The vaulted cellar has an area of 290 m².
Todays use
The building has been used by the city administration since 1910. Events take place in the vaulted cellar and in the large hall on the ground floor.
