Ballinskelligs Castle

Ballinskelligs Castle ( Irish Caisleán Bhaile an Sceilg ) is a ruined castle near the village of Ballinskelligs on the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland .

The ruin lies on the west bank of Ballinskelligs Bay on a narrow headland that is being severely eroded .

The MacCarthy Mórs had the castle built in the 16th century to protect the bay from pirate attacks, and possibly to collect customs duties from merchant ships.
