Balnamoon House

Balnamoon House is a mansion near the Scottish town of Brechin in the Council Area Angus . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish Monument Lists in Monument Category B. Six associated structures are also independently classified as Category B structures: the gardens, the ice house , the pigeon tower , a residential building, a sundial on the front and the shaft of a sundial east of the manor house. Another sundial east of Balnamoon House is classified as a monument of the highest category A.

The oldest fragments of Balnamoon House are believed to date from the 15th century, probably around 1490. The manor house was expanded in the 17th and 18th centuries. Most of what is now Balnamoon House was built in the early 1820s. Even William Burn was involved in the construction phase. In 1826 two more parts of the building were added and the entrance area was redesigned around 1860.

Balnamoon House is isolated near the left bank of the Cruick Burn Stream about three miles northwest of Brechin . The three-story mansion is designed in a classical style. The approximately symmetrical, south-facing main facade is seven axes wide. The Doric portico was built around 1860. The corner projections protruding slightly from the facade are one or two axes wide. The northwest wing is two-story. Its facade is plastered with Harl , with natural stone details being set off.

The approximately 1.4 meter high sundial stands west of Balnamoon House. It was created around 1700. It is a Doric column with Kymatien and numerous dials of different designs.
