Balthasar Mathesius

Johann Balthasar Mathesius (born February 11, 1669 in Siebenlehn , † March 10, 1737 in Wurzen ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Johann Balthasar Mathesius was born as the son of Pastor Balthasar Mathesius (1640–1696) and Anna Magdalena. Priesnitzer (1645–1709) born.

After receiving home schooling, Mathesius attended the princely state school St. Augustin in Grimma from 1682 to 1684 . As a result, he completed a degree in theology, which he completed with the acquisition of the master's degree. In 1693 Mathesius took up his first pastorate in Wellersdorf, from where he moved to Brockwitz . He worked there from 1696 to 1708. He then went to Dahlen as a pastor . In 1721 Mathesius took over the pastoral position in Pretzsch , which he held until 1729. During this time the Electress of Saxony and Queen of Poland Christiane Eberhardine died in the local castle on September 5, 1727 , whom he had looked after in pastoral care. In 1729 Mathesius was appointed superintendent and assessor of the consistory of the Wurzen monastery .

Mathesius married Johanna Sophie Barthold (1663–1714) in 1693. After her death in 1716 he married Magdalena Sophie née Lindner, widowed Bertram. In both connections he had 13 children, most of whom died young; all survivors were girls.
