Baltic Chain Tour
The Baltic Chain Tour is a road bike race that is held as a stage race in the Baltic states of Estonia , Latvia and Lithuania .
The origins of the Baltic Chain Tour go back to 1955, when the Baltic States were still part of the USSR and a stage race through the Baltic States was held for the first time. The previous competition was last held in 1987. After the independence of the Baltic states, the presidents of the Baltic cycling federations announced on November 4, 2010 that this tradition would be revived under the new name. The name alludes to a human chain that was formed on August 23, 1989 over 600 kilometers by over two million demonstrators for the secession of the Baltic States.
The race was added to the UCI Europe Tour calendar in 2011 and has UCI category 2.2 there .
