Balzer Peter von Vahl

Balzer Peter von Vahl (the younger) (born November 14, 1755 in Greifswald ; † September 29, 1825 there ) was a merchant, landlord and councilor. He was one of the founders of the Greifswalder Schiffergesellschaft .

Balzer Peter was a son of the merchant and member of the municipal administration Balzer Peter Vahl (the elder) from Lassan , who was Mayor of Greifswald from 1788 to 1792. Balzer Peter (the younger) was entered together with his brother Gottfried Michael (1748-1811) in 1781 as a merchant of the first estate in the town's register. In 1794 both were elevated to the nobility by a diploma from Emperor Franz II . Balzer Peter was landlord on Gahlkow, Stilow and Brünzow and feudal lord on Adlig Grellenberg.

In 1795 von Vahl was one of the founders of the Greifswalder Schiffergesellschaft, a social institution to support widows, orphans and boatmen in need.

Balzer Peter von Vahl was married to Sophia Carolina Schevenius (born November 22, 1765, † September 11, 1829). His daughter Caroline (* February 12, 1785; † October 13, 1838) was married to Dr. Carl Gesterding , who was Mayor of Greifswald from 1833. His son Carl von Vahl († December 31, 1843) took over the Gahlkow estate and in 1824 became a member of the Greifswald Civic Collegium. In 1859 the family acquired the Klein Zastrow estate through marriage .

Peter Balzers older sister, Christina Liboria (1752–1824), was married to the Greifswald council pharmacist Johann Karl Schildener (1739–1803). Their son was the Greifswald professor Karl Schildener .
