The bamboo chickens ( Bambusicola ) are a genus of birds from the order of the hen birds . It includes two species that are native to East and Southeast Asia. The subspecies of the Chinese bamboo chicken native to Taiwan, which was also introduced in Japan, is sometimes viewed as a distinct species.

description

Bamboo chickens are about the size of a partridge with a length of 25–32 cm . A sexual dimorphism is not pronounced with regard to the plumage, however, unlike the hens, the cocks have a spur on their barrel. The relatively long, wedge-shaped tail consists of 14 control feathers .
