The Banca Gesfid SA was one of the asset management specialist Swiss private bank based in Lugano . It was wholly owned by the Italian insurance group Fondiaria-Sai since mid-2007 .
The company was founded in 1978 as Gesfid SA asset management company and was owned by Banca del Gottardo until 2002 . Then it was sold to the Italian Meliorbanca. After the Swiss Federal Banking Commission 2003 Gesfid SA, to act as bank had granted the company was converted in early 2004 in a bank and Banca SA Gesfid renamed. At the end of 2005, the bank managed client assets of 3.2 billion Swiss francs.
In 2006 the Italian insurance group Fondiaria-Sai initially acquired a 60 percent stake in Banca Gesfid from Meliorbanca. The takeover of the remaining 40 percent was completed in July 2007.
In 2011, Banca Gesfid SA was PKB Privatbank SA which also has its headquarters in Lugano, merged .
