Banco Angolano de Investimentos

The Banco Angolano de Investimentos (BAI), formerly Banco Africano de Investimentos, is a universal bank in Angola . It was founded on November 13, 1996 as the first private Angolan bank in Luanda .

The bank is active in business with individual customers and provides loans and solutions for SMEs . At the beginning of 2020, BAI has a total of 140 branches in Angola, is represented in Portugal with Banco BAI Europa , in Cape Verde with Banco BAI Cabo Verde , and in São Tomé and Príncipe . In Brazil the BAI maintains partnerships with Brazilian institutes and in Johannesburg , South Africa it maintains a representative office . It is the Angolan bank with the highest savings. They were worth 1,092.66 billion kwanzas in 2017. In 2018 it won the “Safest Bank in Angola” and “Best Bank in Angola” awards. In 2012, the BAI was accused by investigative journalist Rafael Marques de Morais of serving as a money laundering institution for the country's political rulers.
