Bandel ( Bengali ব্যান্ডেল , Byānḍel ) is a place in the Hugli district in the Indian state of West Bengal . Portuguese traders already settled here in the 16th century and built the first church in Bengal in 1599 . The house was destroyed in 1632 and rebuilt around 1660 together with a monastery as a rosary basilica .
The Don Bosco School Bandel was founded in 1978.
