Bandia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bandia are a caste in Central Africa . They are descended from the Ngbandi and migrated eastwards, up the Ubangi valley. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the bandia founded several kingdoms and sultanates in the Mbomou region , above all Bang Assu and Rafai . They knew how to integrate different ethnic groups . Their most powerful kingdom was Bang Assu, where the bandia replaced the previously ruling Nzakara . The Azande later took power in Rafai . The sultanates were incorporated into French Congo and Congo Free State towards the end of the 19th century .
