The Bandkanon 1 (Bkan 1) is a Swedish self-propelled cannon that was used in the Swedish Army from 1967 to 2003 .
history
Develops and manufactures the vehicle by the Swedish was defense contractor Bofors AB under the name artillerikanonvagn 151 (akv 151), originally on the chassis of the Swedish KRV - tank should be based. However, as the KRV project was canceled, changes had to be made, for example the chassis was now based on that of the Stridsvagn 103 tank, also produced by Bofors . The first prototype was made in 1960 . The original plan was to produce 70 vehicles, but due to budget cuts, only 26 Bandkanon 1 were delivered instead. These 26 armored artillery vehicles were used until 2003.
In the 1960s and 1970s, the Bkan 1 was the heaviest self-propelled gun in service in the world. The engine was relatively weak and insufficient. Despite the flaw, a reasonable driving range of around 230 km was achieved.
Versions
The self-propelled howitzer Bandkanon 1 was delivered in two versions:
- Band canon 1A : Original version, also only band canon 1
- Band Canon 1C : Modified in the 1980s; significant improvements include an improved drive train and the introduction of the POS-2 navigation system for fire control.
