The band Stoneblock is an almost rectangular and 300 meters high cliff of sandstone on the east coast of the West Antarctic Alexander Island . It rises 3 km north of Triton Point at the mouth of the Venus Glacier in the George VI Sound .
The coast around this cliff was first sighted and photographed by the American polar explorer Lincoln Ellsworth during an overflight on November 23, 1935. These aerial photographs were used by the US cartographer WLG Joerg for a rough mapping. The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey carried out a survey in 1949 and named the cliff after its noticeable banding through the layers of sediment .
