The ribbon weaver museum is a technology and cultural history museum in Wuppertal .

history

The museum was opened in 1989 and was located in the Friedrich-Bayer-Realschule in the Wuppertal district of Küllenhahn ( Lage ) until June 2019 . It was closed at this location on June 13, 2019 and reopened on January 25, 2020 in its new domicile, the Gold-Zack building in the north of Elberfeld .

In its exhibition, the museum shows various weaving machines such as a jacquard loom , finished products from ribbon weaving and braiding as well as a house ribbon weaver's room with a large loom.

The museum reminds of the former importance of ribbon weaving for Wuppertal. In 1913 there were around 8,000 band chairs in use in home work alone .
