history

Former company headquarters in Wuppertal

The Gold-Zack Werke AG emerged from the merger of two older companies. These were the March 1, 1868 by Coppel Cosmann in Barmen (today a part of Wuppertal ) based rubber band factory Cosmann and also founded by Carl Zehnder 1894 in Barmen and later in partnership with A. Villbrandt guided rubber ribbon weaving , Villbrandt & Zehnder in the December 1921 merged to form Cossmann, Villbrandt & Zehnder AG with headquarters in Elberfeld (also Wuppertal).

In addition to elastic bands and cords , the products also included sock holders , suspenders , suspenders and umbrella holders .

The Gold-Zack brand was created in 1934 . According to tradition, the name came about when a marketing employee accidentally discovered filthy braided braids in a production hall that had a zigzag pattern . Then, at his suggestion, a zigzag-shaped, gold-colored pattern was woven into the rubber bands, which was supposed to symbolize high quality. This marketing idea made the company very successful. In 1936 the company generated sales of 2,164,617 Reichsmarks with elastic articles .

The Wuppertal plant was destroyed in the air raids on Wuppertal in 1943. After starting over, the company grew to become the market leader in 1950 and introduced a new company logo with a zigzag pattern. In 1960 the company relocated to Mettmann , where more than 20,000 square meters of production area were set up on an 8 hectare factory site. In the same year it was renamed Gold-Zack Werke AG .

In 1970 the majority of the shares were taken over by Hans Dedi , owner of the company Hüssy & Künzli . With the takeover of Hüssy & Künzli by Gustav und Grete Schickedanz Holding KG in 1984, the majority of shares in Gold-Zack-Werke AG passed into their hands. In 1990 the company went public , in which 99,000 shares with a value of 32 million DM were issued. 66% of the shares remained with Gustav and Grete Schickedanz Holding KG .

The company's economic success ended in the 1990s with the structural change in the textile sector. Despite a financial injection of 50.6 million DM by Gustav und Grete Schickedanz Holding KG, the workforce shrank to 70 in 1994. In 1995 the company was about to end. The haberdashery division was sold to William Prym GmbH & Co. KG , which still manages the Gold-Zack brand successfully today.

The Iserlohner Dietrich Walther took over in 1996 the majority of shares of Gold-Zack Werke AG of Schickedanz, led a coat exploitation by that Affiliate Gontard & Metals Bank and the company walked with a focus on in a stock underwriter NEMAX to values. By 2000, 26 companies had gone public . With the end of the New Market , Gold-Zack-Werke AG also got into trouble and had to file for bankruptcy in 2003 . The transaction continues (as of the end of 2014); the Gold-Zack share will continue to be traded on the stock exchange.
