Sock holder

By garters to be prevented that the socks slip. This was particularly necessary earlier, when the elastic sock edge did not yet exist. Sock holders are made of elastic rubber band (suspender width 25 mm), usually supplemented by a metal fastener and a plastic holder with a leather loop. The sock holder was attached to the lower leg; the scope could be adjusted with a sliding buckle. The metal fastener with a plastic holder was wedged into the upper edge of the sock.

The term sock holder is also used for clips that are used to connect pairs of socks that belong together before the start of washing so that sorting after washing is superfluous.
