Suspenders (presumably originally plural to suspender 'knit' or from English strap 'ribbon', ' halter ') are special suspender belts in the form of elastic ribbons with a clip that are attached to lingerie to attach fine stockings .

history

Buckles for attaching calf bands were found in Alemannic women's graves from the 4th to 7th centuries. From a grave opening of Heinrich VI. (1190–1197) is a silk belt tied in a knot with several green and red silk cords that were first pulled through the skirt and then attached to holes in the stockings. In a picture from the 12th century you can see how leg warmers are attached to a hernial belt. Until the 1960s, ribbons were used by children to attach woolen stockings to the camisole. Suspenders found widespread use with the availability of nylon stockings . Back then they were mostly attached to bodices or girdles . In the 1960s they were almost completely supplanted by pantyhose. However, they are now being used more frequently again for erotic reasons.

Attachment

Lingerie, where they can be located, are corsage , bustier , corset , sometimes Body and rarely slip . With the suspender belt there is also an independent lingerie, the sole purpose of which is to hold the stockings in place with suspenders.

Stocking and suspender can be connected in two ways: Usually there is an eyelet and a button at the lower end of the ribbon . To fix it, the button is pushed between the leg and the end of the stocking and then the eyelet is placed over it so that the end is between the button and the eyelet and the button is in the large opening of the eyelet. Then the loop is pulled back so that the button clicks into place. Sometimes an ordinary clip is used, which is simply clipped onto the stocking.
