Bangladesh Television ( BTV for short ; Bengali : বাংলাদেশ টেলিভিশন ) is the state television provider of Bangladesh .

Bangladesh Television administrative building

In 1964, PTV began broadcasting television programs in what was then East Pakistan . After independence, the name was changed to BTV in 1971 and nationalization in 1972. In 1975 they moved into a new building in Dhaka's Rampura district. The first color broadcasts were broadcast in 1980. BTV World started in February 2004 via AsiaSat .

Until 2014, the state-owned BTV is the only provider of terrestrial television in Bangladesh. In rural areas in particular, this is the only TV reception, while the urban population is increasingly receiving cable TV with a choice of TV channels. However, only 26% of all television households in Bangladesh have a cable connection.

The main news in English will be broadcast at 10:00 PM Bengali time (নিউজ অ্যাট টেন).
