The Bangor and Piscataquis Railroad is a former railway company in Maine ( United States ). It existed as an independent company from 1861 to 1899.

history

The company was founded on March 5, 1861. It operated only a single, 123-kilometer route from Old Town to Greenville . It was opened in sections from 1869 to 1883.

In 1873, the Bangor & Piscataquis was leased by E & NAR , which was connected to the route in Old Town. When this company could no longer meet its payment obligations in 1876, the leasing contract was terminated on December 1 of that year and Bangor & Piscataquis operated its route again under its own management.

In 1887, Bangor & Piscataquis was able to lease the Bangor and Katahdin Iron Works Railway , which was connected to its line in Milo Junction and operated a 29-kilometer route to Katahdin Iron Works. On April 1, 1892, the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad leased the company for 99 years and finally bought it on April 1, 1899. Since then, the line has been operated as the Piscataquis Division by the BAR. Since 2003 the railway has been under the control of the Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway .
