Bangor and Katahdin Iron Works Railway

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bangor and Katahdin Iron Works Railway is a former railway company in Maine ( United States ). The company was founded on August 2, 1881 . It operated only a single 29-kilometer route between Milo Junction and Katahdin Iron Works, which was completed in 1882.

In 1887, the Bangor and Piscataquis Railroad , on whose route the Milo Junction station was, leased the company. Since this in turn was leased on April 1, 1892 by the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad , the contract with Bangor & Katahdin was also transferred to this company. It acquired Bangor & Katahdin on July 1, 1901 and incorporated the line into its network. The remaining line section is used today by the Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway .
