The Bank of the German Automotive Industry GmbH ( BDK ) is a manufacturer-independent specialist bank for the automotive industry based in Hamburg. It was founded in 2000 with the participation of the Central Association of the German Motor Vehicle Industry . The BDK is integrated into the Société Générale group and a member of the banking association. The company offers financial services in the automotive sector for car dealerships and their customers. The product portfolio includes vehicle financing, vehicle leasing, dealer refinancing (purchase financing), insurance and other services. The partner for the leasing offer is ALD Lease Finanz GmbH (ALD LF). BDK and ALD LF work in personal union.

history

In 2000, the German Motor Vehicle Industry Bank was founded. The BDK is a joint establishment of GEFA Gesellschaft für Vertriebsfinanzierung mbH (GEFA), TECHNO Versicherungsdienst GmbH and Beteiligungsgesellschaft des Kfz-Gewerbes mbH with the purpose of providing car dealerships with financial services.

Due to a strategic realignment, the Deutsche Bank , which was involved in GEFA, parted with its investment finance, leasing and vehicle fleet management business in 2001. The large French bank Société Générale (SG) became the new owner . SG decides to bundle the car financing and car leasing business at the Hamburg location. For its part, GEFA sold its shares in BDK to ALD Autoleasing D GmbH. In 2003 the seat of the BDK was relocated from Wuppertal to Hamburg.

The Société Générale separated the fleet business of ALD Autoleasing D from the retail and end customer business. In 2005, ALD Lease Finanz GmbH was founded. She took over BDK's leasing business for retail and end customers. The fleet business is managed by ALD Autoleasing D GmbH. The BDK continues to be responsible for the financing business.

In 2017, the BDK achieved 1st place in the “ Autohaus -Bankenmonitor” category in the “Independent Car Banks” category.
