The Bank of Thailand ( Thai ธนาคาร แห่ง ประเทศไทย Thanakan Haeng Prathet Thai ; in international parlance: Bank of Thailand ) is the central bank of the Kingdom of Thailand .
History and general
The Bank of Thailand was initially set up as the Thai National Banking Bureau. On April 28, 1942, the "Bank of Thailand Act" was published, in which the "Bank of Thailand" was given full responsibility for all central bank functions. The bank officially started operations on December 10, 1942.
The Bank of Thailand is run by a governor and four deputies. Prasarn Trairatvorakul was appointed governor on October 1, 2010, succeeding Tarisa Watanagase .
The central bank is located in Bangkok- Bangkhunprom.
tasks
The central bank's tasks include:
- Operate monetary policy
- Supervision of national credit institutions
- Advising the government on economic policy
- Maintenance of the currency reserve
- Printing and issuing of banknotes (central bank)
Since May 2000, monetary policy has been aimed at a target range of core inflation (price index excluding energy and raw food). The target range is currently 0% - 3.5%.
