The Banpo Bridge is an important girder bridge in the South Korean capital, Seoul , that spans the Han River . It connects the Seocho and Yongsan districts . The Banpo Bridge was completed in 1982 and runs above the Jamsu Bridge . When the water rises, the Jamsu Bridge is flooded and closed, so that only the Banpo Bridge is still passable.

Rainbow water feature

The Moonlight Rainbow Fountain ( kor. 달빛 무지개 분수 ) was installed on both sides of the Banpo Bridge and is the longest bridge water feature in the world with a total length of 1140 meters. A total of 38 water pumps and 380 nozzles are attached to both sides of the bridge. The pumped up river water falls from the bridge into the river at a depth of 20 meters. When it gets dark, 200 lights provide a sight of the rainbow. The bridge fountain has been in the Guinness Book of Records since December 2008 .
