Banting is a small, bowl-shaped impact crater on the moon , near the center of Mare Serenitatis . The surface of its surroundings is flat and without any noticeable characteristics. The crater was known as Linnaeus E before it was renamed in 1973 by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) after the Canadian doctor Sir Frederick Grant Banting . The main Linnaeus crater is west-northwest.
