Barbara Allen

Barbara Allen (real name Peggy Joye Tunnell , * 1936 in Zuni , Virginia ) is an American country singer who was best known for her appearances on the radio show Grand Ole Opry .

Life

Barbara Allen became interested in music during her high school years. After successfully completing school, Allen made her first appearances on the radio. During one of these appearances, she was discovered by an agent of Decca Records , who gave her a contract. She soon released her first single Between Now And Then , followed in 1958 by her second record, From Midnight 'Til Dawn . That same year, Billboard magazine named her one of the top three most promising women in country music in 1958. She made her opry appearances alongside stars of the time such as Anita Carter , the Everly Brothers and George Morgan . In 1957 and 1958 she appeared in the Grand Ole Opry.

However, Allen then moved back to her hometown of Zuna, where she started a family over the next few years. In 1959 she returned to the music scene and performed on the WRVA Old Dominion Barn Dance , a radio show from Richmond , Virginia .
