Barbara Thiel

Barbara Thiel (born March 22, 1955 in Salzgitter ) has been the State Commissioner for Data Protection for the State of Lower Saxony since January 1, 2015 .

Career

Barbara Thiel grew up in Salzgitter. After starting her career at the city of Salzgitter, studying law in Göttingen and completing her legal traineeship in Lower Saxony, she worked for the Braunschweig district government, the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior , the Lower Saxony State Audit Office and the Wolfenbüttel district . Most recently, she headed the Public Health, Safety, IT Coordination and EU Affairs Department in the Hanover Region .

On December 18, 2014, she was elected by the 17th Lower Saxony state parliament as the state commissioner for data protection and appointed by the state government for a term of eight years. She took office on January 1, 2015.

Barbara Thiel has been a member of the CDU since 2001 .
