Barclay Vincent Head
Barclay Vincent Head (born January 2, 1844 in Ipswich , † June 12, 1914 in London ) was a British numismatist .
From 1864 he worked as an assistant in the "Department of Coins" of the British Museum , in 1871 he became senior assistant, from 1893 to 1906 he was the director of the department. Between 1874 and 1914 he and his colleagues published 27 volumes of the British Museum's inventory of Greek coins, the “Catalog of Greek Coins”, which is still one of the standard reference works in numismatics. His work “Historia Numorum”, first published in 1887, still forms the basis of any scientific study of Greek numismatics.
From 1905 he was a corresponding member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres and from October 29, 1908 a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .
