Barh is a city in the state of Bihar in eastern India . It is part of the Patna district . Barh has the status of a City Council ( Nagar parishad ). The city is divided into 27 wards (constituencies). It is located on the southern bank of the river Ganges and about 60 km east of Patna .

Demographics

The population of the city is 61,470 according to the 2011 census. Barh has a gender ratio of 873 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus typical for India. The literacy rate was 75.55% in 2011. Almost 85% of the population are Hindus , around 14% are Muslims and around 1% belong to other religions. 15.7% of the population are children under 6 years of age. 14.0% of the population are part of the Scheduled Castes .

Infrastructure

Barh is on National Highway 37, which connects it to major cities in India. The city also has its own train station.

economy

With the Barh Super Thermal Power Station there is a large power plant in Barh, which was inaugurated in 2003.
