Scheduled castes
Scheduled Castes ( English for "listed box"), abbreviated SC , called in India a group of socially disadvantaged groups, mostly lower Hindu - box , or Dalits , which according to the Indian Constitution send special rights (see. Affirmative action ). The total of 1,108 scheduled castes are listed in the first appendix ( schedule ) to the Indian constitution. According to the 2011 census, there were 201 million scheduled castes in India . This corresponded to a share of the population of 16.6 percent. Comparable special rights also have members of the indigenous tribal population as Scheduled Tribes (ST) and the members of the "other backward classes" ( Other Backward Classes , OBC).
According to the Indian Constitution (Article 341 (1)) only members of the Hindu, Sikhs and Buddhist religions can be classified as Scheduled Castes . According to the 2001 census, the state with the highest proportion of was Scheduled Castes of the Punjab (28.9%) and the state with the lowest share Mizoram (0.03%). The district with the highest percentage of SC was Koch Bihar (50.1%) and the district with the lowest percentage was Lawngtlai (0.01%).
