The entrance to the building is emphasized by a “glazed, raised measuring tower with a terrace roof”. Inside the tower there is an "elegant staircase". The glass entrance axis is flanked left and right by side buildings with "elongated perforated facades". The two-storey side buildings have a flat gable roof with a narrow cornice and verge .

By 1958, the building was extended by a four-wing square up to Georg-Schumann-Straße . This is four-story and has a partial basement.

As the last construction phases for the time being, the large antenna tower on Georg-Schumann-Straße and the adjoining lecture hall building on Nöthnitzer Straße followed by 1965 . The large lecture hall there (I-90) has been called the Heinz Schönfeld lecture hall since 1994 .

The building has a square inner courtyard, which mainly serves as a parking lot and delivery driveway, as well as a small park on the southern side courtyard. The area of this cave garden also includes a small pond, which is called "Barkhausenteich".
