Luftkurhaus at the Barmer Luftkurhaus

The Barmer Luftkurhaus is a former building in Wuppertal . It was built in 1892 opposite the Barmer Toelleturm . It was financed by the industrialist Adolf Vorwerk , who lived in the neighborhood and had built a holiday home called "Luftkurhaus" for his family as early as 1888. The Barmer Luftkurhaus served as a hotel, café and restaurant at the same time and had large lounges. The architect is not exactly known; It was probably a member of the Conradi family, according to whose plans several buildings were built in Wuppertal. In 1927, the climatic spa was redesigned by Carl Conradi on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Vorwerk company .

During the great air raid on Barmen on May 30, 1943, the climatic spa was badly damaged and burned out. Reconstruction after the World War was rejected because it no longer seemed up to date. Until 2007, the site on the corner of Hohenzollernstrasse and Adolf-Vorwerk-Strasse lay fallow and still contained some remains of the old facility. In 2008 the area was built with residential houses.
