Adolf Vorwerk

Adolf Vorwerk (born June 14, 1853 in Barmen (today a district of Wuppertal ); † August 20, 1925 there ) was an important representative of the Barmer industry and a highly committed entrepreneur .

It was the second son of Carl Vorwerk sen. and after completing commercial training and military service, he joined the company Vorwerk & Sohn founded by his grandfather and uncle . He put through mechanically operated belt chairs for the production of belts . With his brother Carl , he founded the company "Barmer Teppichfabrik Vorwerk & Co." in 1883, which Carl then took over. Today's Vorwerk emerged from this company .

Among other things, Adolf developed the successful product "Velor clothing protection borders", which counteracted the wear and tear of long skirts by dragging them on the floor. From around 1900 Vorwerk turned to the manufacture of various rubber products.

Vorwerk recognized the need for urban development to extend to the southern heights of Wuppertal . He built a climatic spa and set up a bus line to the center of Barmen. Later he initiated the construction of the Barmer Bergbahn . In 1892 he had the “ new climatic spa ” built, which became a popular excursion destination. He had the Vorwerk Park and in the Toelleturm area set up sports and playgrounds.

His three sons Adolf junior, Wilhelm and Max all took over management functions in the father's company or became their owners.

The grave of Adolf Vorwerk is on the Ev. Norrenberg cemetery in Barmen .
