The Church of Mercy ( Polish: Kościół Bożego Miłosierdzia ) in Kraków is a Catholic Baroque church at ul. Bożego Miłosierdzia in the Nowy Świat district west of Kraków's old town on the left bank of the Vistula .
history
The church was built after 1550 in the western Kraków suburb of Smoleńsk (the part of which was later called Smoleńsk Duchowny or Bożego Miłosierdzia after the church) not far from the city wall as a votive church for Jan Żukowski , who died that year . The church was expanded in the early baroque style between 1626 and 1629. Since 1649 it has been administered by the Wawel Cathedral . Since it was outside the city wall, it was looted and badly damaged during the Swedish Flood in 1655 . It was rebuilt and rededicated in 1665. Between 1905 and 1910 the church was restored under the direction of Jan Sas-Zubrzycki .
