Barmke is one of the four districts of the Lower Saxony district town of Helmstedt in Germany .
geography
Barmke is about 7 km northwest of Helmstedt directly on the federal highway 2 Hanover - Berlin and near the state border with Saxony-Anhalt . The district is structured in a rural way and currently has around 830 inhabitants (as of 2003). Several clubs are located in Barmke, including the sports club, the volunteer fire brigade and a rifle club.
history
The village was first mentioned in a document in 1150.
A post office had existed in Barmke since 1896 .
On March 1, 1974, Barmke was incorporated into the district town of Helmstedt. In 1974 the dairy in Barmke was also closed.

Local mayor has been Stefan Weferling ( CDU ) since 2011 . His predecessor was Wittich Schobert (CDU) from 1991 to 2011. In 2011 he was elected mayor of the district town of Helmstedt.
traffic
Barmke is located on the Helmstedt – Oebisfelde railway line, which is only used by freight trains .
