Barney and Friends (Original title: Barney & Friends ) is an American television series for preschoolers .
Barney was created by Sheryl Leach in 1987 . He is a purple dinosaur who, together with other plush dinosaurs and (real) children, similar to Sesame Street , conveys learning content with his songs and optimistic-friendly attitude.
Parodies
The Simpsons episode In the Clutches of a Cult features a parody of Barney. The Simpsons are followers of an obscure sect in this episode, in connection with the indoctrination of their disciples, Barney can be seen on television, who plays a song to some of the children with the words "We love him, he loves us, he is our leader. Hunzelpunz" sings. In the Beavis & Butthead episode Tornado , too , the show is parodied in that a Barney-like figure bakes something and catches fire while singing about the incident. Furthermore, Barney was referred to as a "stupid" in the television series The Dinos .
Trivia
The American actors and singers Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez started their careers on the show.
