Stuttgart Baroque Orchestra

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stuttgart Baroque Orchestra, founded in 1985 by Frieder Bernius , is one of twelve chamber orchestras in the state capital of Baden-Württemberg. It specializes in 18th century music. The musicians are freelance workers and are among the leading representatives of historical performance practice . You make music exclusively on original instruments. In cooperation with the Stuttgart Barock Festival , which Frieder Bernius launched in 1987 , the orchestra pioneered historically informed performances. A focus in the repertoire is the re-performance of operas from the 18th century (Rameau, Jommelli, Naumann, Gluck) as well as the excavation of music-historical treasures from southwest Germany (Kalliwoda, Knecht, Holzbauer). Many of the CD productions of the Stuttgart Baroque Orchestra with Carus and Sony have been awarded record prizes, including Bach's B minor Mass, the Mozart Requiem and the recording of the masses by Jan Dismas Zelenkas. The total list of CD recordings includes almost 60 works.
